Vitosha Mountain (SW Bulgaria) during the Little Ice Age in the context of past climate changes in the Balkans

This study aims to present and analyse several descriptions of snow cover conditions on Vitosha Mountain over the last five centuries. It uses written historical sources diachronic method. They are discussed in context available climate environmental data for Bulgaria adjacent areas Balkans during Little Ice Age (LIA). can be concluded from presented LIA that probably 17th early 18th centuries had significantly longer retention with presence permanent or semi-permanent patches, a situation is different conditions. The analysis climatic other regions Bulgaria, as well neighboring countries Balkans, shows this period, especially southern parts Balkan Peninsula, there was significant cooling. Future studies (high resolution) natural archives needed provide more information about nature changes LIA.
